Privacy Policy
Effective date: May 4, 2026 · Last updated: May 4, 2026
Short version: Conscious is built around your privacy. Your Screen Time data never leaves your device. Optional location and motion data, when enabled, is used only to power on-device insights. You can sign in with email, Apple, or Google to back up account-level settings — but not your usage data. We use a small set of third parties (Apple, Supabase, RevenueCat, Statsig) only to make the app work, and we never sell your data.
1. Who we are
Conscious is an iOS app that helps you understand and manage your screen time. This Privacy Policy describes how the Conscious app ("Conscious", "we", "us", "our") handles information when you use it. If you have any questions, contact us at keebbuddy@gmail.com.
2. Information we handle
We organize information by what the app does with it.
2.1 Screen Time data (stays on your device)
Conscious uses Apple's Screen Time, FamilyControls, DeviceActivity, and ManagedSettings frameworks to help you track and limit your app usage. The information returned by these frameworks (such as which apps you use and for how long) is represented as opaque tokens that are tied to your device. Per Apple's restrictions, this data:
- Cannot be transmitted off your device.
- Is not collected, stored, or read by Conscious servers.
- Is processed entirely on your iPhone for the purpose of displaying insights, computing daily allowances, and enforcing limits you configure.
2.2 Location and motion data (optional, on-device)
If you grant Conscious location permission, the app uses Apple's Core Location and Core Motion frameworks to detect significant places ("stops") and infer movement context. This is used for features like Location Insights, which show where you tend to use your phone the most. This information is processed and stored on your device and is not transmitted to our servers.
You can revoke location permission at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → Conscious. Motion access can be revoked under Settings → Privacy & Security → Motion & Fitness → Conscious.
2.3 Account information (when you sign in)
Signing in is optional. If you create a Conscious account, we use Supabase to handle authentication. Depending on the sign-in method you choose, we receive:
- Email + password: the email address you provide and a hashed password (managed by Supabase).
- Sign in with Apple: the identity token returned by Apple, which may include a relay email address you control.
- Sign in with Google: the identity token returned by Google, which includes the email associated with your Google account.
- Phone (SMS): the phone number you provide and a one-time verification code.
Account information is used to sign you in, identify your subscription state across devices you sign into, and let you contact our support team. We do not use your email for marketing without your explicit consent.
2.4 Subscription information
If you purchase a Conscious Pro subscription, the transaction is processed by Apple through the App Store. Apple shares limited purchase metadata (such as a transaction identifier and entitlement status) with our subscription provider, RevenueCat, so we can verify your subscription is active. We do not receive your credit-card number, billing address, or any other payment details — those stay with Apple.
If you sign in to Conscious, your account identifier is shared with RevenueCat so your subscription is recognized across devices you sign in to.
2.5 Diagnostic and usage analytics
Conscious collects a limited set of analytics events to understand which features are used and to detect crashes or errors. These events do not contain your Screen Time data, app names, or location coordinates. Examples include: app launched, paywall viewed, limit created, feature toggled. Where possible, events are aggregated and tied to a randomly generated installation identifier rather than a personal identifier.
2.6 Feature flags (Statsig)
Conscious uses Statsig to roll out features incrementally and run A/B experiments. Statsig receives a randomly generated identifier and basic device attributes (such as app version and OS version) to determine which features should be enabled for your installation. It does not receive your Screen Time data, location, or contact information.
2.7 Customer feedback
If you submit feedback through the in-app feedback form, the message you type and any contact information you choose to include are sent to us so we can respond. We retain feedback to track issues until they are resolved.
3. How we use information
We use the information described above to:
- Operate the app's core features (Screen Time tracking, blocks, insights, widgets).
- Authenticate you and remember your preferences.
- Verify and manage your subscription.
- Improve the app, fix bugs, and decide what to build next.
- Respond to your support requests and feedback.
- Comply with applicable law.
We do not sell your personal information, share it with advertisers, or use it for cross-app tracking.
4. Third-party services we use
| Service | Purpose | What it receives |
|---|---|---|
| Apple | App distribution, Screen Time APIs, in-app purchases, Sign in with Apple | App Store transaction data, your Apple ID identity token (only if you choose Sign in with Apple) |
| Supabase | Authentication and account storage | Email or phone number you provide, hashed password (if applicable), authentication tokens |
| RevenueCat | Subscription management and entitlement verification | App Store transaction identifier, your account identifier (if signed in), device platform |
| Statsig | Feature flags and experimentation | Random installation identifier, app version, OS version |
| Sign in with Google (only if you choose this method) | Identity token for the Google account you authorize |
These services act as our processors and may store data in the United States or other jurisdictions. We rely on each provider's standard data-protection terms.
5. How long we keep information
- On-device data (Screen Time, location, motion, settings) stays on your device until you delete the app or use the in-app "Delete All Data" option.
- Account data is retained for as long as your account exists. If you delete your account, we delete or anonymize associated records within 30 days, except where we are required by law to retain them.
- Subscription records are retained for as long as required by accounting and tax law (typically up to 7 years).
- Analytics events are retained for up to 24 months in aggregated form.
6. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate information.
- Delete your account and associated personal information.
- Object to or restrict certain processing.
- Receive your data in a portable format.
- Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.
- Lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at keebbuddy@gmail.com. You can also delete on-device data at any time using the "Delete All Data" option in the in-app Profile sheet.
7. Children
Conscious is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
8. Security
We use industry-standard security practices to protect information, including TLS encryption in transit and access controls on our backend systems. No system can be 100% secure, but we work to minimize the risk of unauthorized access.
9. International users
Conscious is operated globally. By using the app, you understand that your information may be processed in countries other than your own, including the United States, where data-protection laws may differ from your local laws.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you in the app or by email before the changes take effect. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision.
